You're assuming the motives of Kirk's killer.

There are other possibilities, such as obsessive fixation with a public figure, or even a false flag.

In any case, we don't yet know the killer, let alone their motives, with any real certainty.

Kirk was just a guy who spread fear, hatred, bigotry, and anti-democratic ideals in a democratic nation. He called for cruelty against queer people, immigrants, the homeless, and the poor. No elected office, commitment to an institution outside himself, or badge of honor outside of wealth gained from social media influencership. I don’t think it’s that big a deal that he’s gone.

Kirk had started speaking out against the Israeli government. He was on their case, asking awkward questions about 7/10/23.

Gaza, Iran, Lebanon, Yemen, Doha, Tunis and now Charlie Kirk.

He wasn’t a genius. He was skilled at redirecting conversations to territory he felt safe in through whataboutery and throwing in red herrings.

He got body slammed by the far greater intellect of Tilly Middlehurst at the Cambridge Union debate.

This is a very good piece.

Though Mr. Genius died shortly after the shooting.

Pim Fortuyn's murder in The Netherlands in 2002 resulted in a fundamentally changed political landscape to this very day (in fact the elections there next month will all about the issues Fortuyn put on the agenda 20 years ago). Reagan in 1981 surviving his assassination gave him political wings that arguably propelled him into his second term.
